Vineyard trellis and fence installation for rural properties
Most posts for grapevine trellising systems are timber posts, either pine posts or hardwood posts. Steel or plastic posts are sometimes used however treated pine is preferred for durability and their striking visual character. Trellis system accessories such as hooks, clips, staples and ties, including wire and plastic ties, twines and tapes are also used in the construction and configuration phase of vineyard establishment. In order to assemble grapevine trellising systems tools such as trellis guns, tying tools, clip applicators and staplers, including pneumatic staple guns, are essential for applying trellis components.
Zinc-aluminum fencing wires are coated utilizing 95% zinc / 5% aluminum alloy coating. The new zinc-aluminum alloy retains the renowned protection of hot-dip galvanized coatings (excellent barrier coating, metallurgically bonded to the steel and providing very effective cathodic protection to any exposed steel). The small aluminum addition however, enhances the anticorrosion performance of the coating by making it more weather resilient. The dull, grey oxide layer formed on zinc-aluminum is more durable than the soft, white layer formed on pure zinc. This oxide layer itself acts as a barrier, retarding corrosion of the zinc-aluminum alloy.
8 reasons to use steel for vineyard trellis:
Ease of installation compared to wood posts Ease of use compared to wood posts Ready to use once their driven into the ground, just string your wires Increased versatility compared to wood posts (lots of built-in options for placement of wires, thanks to wire slots) Better for grounding lightening strikes then wood posts No need for wire clips, staples, etc…. More efficient harvesting with mechanical harvesters compared to wood posts (more fruit harvested with less beater power of harvester, and less damage to costly vines) More consistent quality then wood posts
