One of the best advancements in digital cameras in recent years has been the fully articulating lcd screen.  That means that the LCD screen of your digital camera can be pulled out and rotated to make it easier to take what would otherwise be awkward or impossible shots.  For example, with an articulating screen you can actually take pictures of people standing behind you.
