Hotels and resorts have led to the property boom in Cyprus. In fact the pace of property development has been such that it has led to labour shortages. Labour (skilled and unskilled) from other parts such as Eastern Europe and Asia have immigrated to Cyprus, seeking work.

The explosion in property development, however, has come at a price. In recent years, some water shortages have been reported. Yet, in the North, there ia an abundant supply of water.
