One of my most memorable locations in Sicily is Taormina. We were in one of the Italy hotels by the shore, overlooking the Ionian Sea, the colors of turquoise, green and azure blue dazzling the eye. Looking westward you could see the mountain with terraced gardens of pine trees, palms and stately cypresses, terracotta roofs and the botanical gardens. The “funniculla”, the mountain cable car, takes you from the bay to the top of the mountain. And you can make out the silhouette and grandeur of the famous Mt Etna. We were fortunate that we had left only a few days previous to its eruption that yer!
